Tottenham beat Manchester United 2-1 at White Hart Lane

will move out of the Lane and play their home games at Wembley for a season while their new stadium is being built.

Goals from Victor Wanyama and Harry Kane earned the north London club a to give their home the perfect send off.

The result also secures Tottenham a second-place finish in the Premier League.

Last season their title challenge wilted and Pochettino’s men ended up third, one place behind rivals Arsenal.

But the manager now believes his side are going places and expects them to be wining silverware from next term.

“It is true that we will play in the new stadium and we will take the last step (to win something),” he said.

“We need to feel that Wembley is our home and we need to find a balance between White Hart Lane and there. Next season we will feel it is our home.

“We will be proud of our achievements and we fought for the Premier League.”

Spurs restricted United to a handful of chances today and while Wayne Rooney gave the visitors hope they struggled to threaten Hugo Lloris’ goal.

“It was a perfect performance and I am happy for the victory for our fans. It was a fantastic victory which the fans deserved,” Pochettino said.

“We had the control of the game and played better. It was another great performance at White Hart Lane and now we have to focus on the last two games.

“We are playing against Manchester United and they have very good players.

“They have been prepared to win the league and win big things. It is great to achieve second position and it is fantastic for us.

“We have been unbeaten at home all season so there are a lot of things to be happy about.”

Spurs players react to win

The Spurs players were forced to take refuge in the tunnel at full time as fans invaded the pitch.

Dele Alli said of the game: “It was unbelievable. The fans deserved it and we had to play for them. It’s been a great season and hopefully we can build on it. 

“We want to win every game. We were comfortable at 2-0 but perhaps we made it harder than it needed to be.”

Harry Kane added: “What a way to finish. We wanted a win so badly in our last game here. I said before I’d love to score the winning goal and for it to happen is brilliant. To see it go in was special. 

“When you look at our points tally compared to last season, obviously we’re disappointed losing out on the title but we are growing. We so badly wanted to win this game.”

Manchester United plot Europa League triumph

Defeat for means they cannot finish in the top four this season.

But Mourinho’s men can still qualify for the Champions League if they win the Europa League final against Ajax on 24 May.

And Mourinho said his full focus is now on that clash in Stockholm.

“When people say we gambled by going to Europa League, we didn’t gamble,” he said.

“You can’t play two big competitions with 15 players. It was compulsory.

“The ones that needed to play 90 mins got to play, we got no injuries.

“At the moment, the Premier League matches are the ones we don’t want to play.

“I don’t want to think about next season – I want to think about the final we have to play in.”

United captain Rooney added: “To be honest it’s another game against Tottenham. It was special for their players and fans but for us it was another game at White Hart Lane.

“We wanted to win the game, we went out and tried to win the game. Tottenham played well but we could have done better.

“White Hart Lane always was one of my favourite grounds to play at. I have good memories here.”
