Last year saw Sergio Garcia secure his first ever major victory after 22 previous top-10 finishes in dramatic and emotional scenes.
Justin Rose had missed a putt for a three-shot lead in the closing stages of Sunday’s final round and Garcia capitalised, going birdie-eagle at holes 14 and 15 to finish the round at -9 and force a playoff.
It took just one sudden death hole – the 18th – to separate them as Garcia made birdie and Rose only bogey to spark wild celebrations in Augusta and back home in Spain.
So can the Spaniard defend the Green Jacket successfully? Here’s when he and the smallest Masters field in 20 years – just 87 in total – take to the famous fairways.
When are the Masters 2018?
The tournament itself will start on Thursday April 5 with one round taking place on each day, weather permitting, meaning the 2018 champion will be crowned on the evening of Sunday April 8.
The gates will open to fans at Augusta on Thursday at 8am local time – or 1pm in the UK – with the first tee-time likely to be scheduled for shortly afterwards.
Exact tee-times will be released on Tuesday April 3.
