MAPPED: Ten holiday destinations that are MORE affordable since Trump became President

Donald Trump became President of the United States a year today, after beating candidate Hillary Clinton.

Since then, he has issued travel bans to various countries, causing concern for citizens both in the US and around the world.

It has since been revealed that, despite the turmultous exchange rate, the pound has increased in certain countries, making them the ideal holiday destination to get the best value.

The pound has struggled against the dollar over the past year, reaching a height of 1.20 in December that it hasn’t seen since.

With the pound struggling against the dollar due to the Trump presidency, and against the euro following Brexit, it is worth going further afield.

According to prepaid currency card FairFx, the best country to travel to for the best value is Argentina.

If exchanging £1,000, this would get 23,191 pesos, a difference of 24 per cent since Trump got into power.

Other huge improvements include Japan, up by 15 per cent as well as New Zealand and South Africa, both up 11 per cent.

Travellers are encouraged to track the pound for the best exchange rate in a country before choosing their holiday, to get the most out of it.

Other countries to have improved in the past year include Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Indonesia, Kenya, Seychelles and Switzerland.

FairFX CEO Ian Strafford-Taylor explained: “The last 12 months have been a turbulent one for Sterling, as it reacted to political and economic events, including the unexpected election of politically inexperienced Donald Trump.

“However, holidaymakers who are savvy about the news agenda will be able to get more for their money by staying alert and monitoring exchange rates to lock in the best deal.”

When the pound improves, holidaymakers should then top up a prepaid card to avoid any future volatility and losing money.

Travellers wanting to save even more money should try and go off the beaten track when it comes to visiting a country.

FairFX has revealed that by avoiding the famous tourist cities, as much as 55 per cent can be saved.

Those wanting to head to Paris could spend as much as £400 for a two-night break, whilst the same stay in Lille.

Choosing Santiago de Compostela over Barcelona could also 51 per cent, with a difference of £134.

Unknown destinations such as Leipzig in Germany and Malmo in Sweden also saved a pretty penny.
