The Spain midfielder has been instrumental to Jose Mourinho this term.
While there were fears before the beginning of the campaign about Mata’s long-term future at Old Trafford, he has been indispensable to Jose Mourinho.
And the Daily Star on Sunday claim United are ready to reward Mata for his good form.
It is said that Manchester United will trigger a clause in his contract to extend his current deal by another year.
United have already activated clauses to retain the services of Marouane Fellaini and Antonio Valencia, while talks are in the pipeline for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Mata, as things stand, has 16 months left to run on his present contract.
And it is thought the 28-year-old, who joined in a £37.1million deal from Chelsea in January 2014, is keen to carry on in Manchester.
He has already highlighted his commitment to the cause by buying into a restaurant in the city centre.
Mata and United were frustrated yesterday as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Bournemouth.
