Manchester United boss Mourinho signed Modric from Tottenham when he was in charge of Real Madrid back in 2012.
The Croatia international endured a rocky start to life in Spain – being voted La Liga’s worst signing in a fan poll – as Real lost out on major trophies to the likes of Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
But he has since become one of the world’s best midfielders, helping Los Blancos win the Champions League three times in the past four years.
And Spanish outlet Diario Gol say Modric maintains a close relationship with Mourinho despite the 54-year-old leaving the Bernabeu four years ago.
In a shock report, it is implied that the former Spurs ace is leaking information to the Manchester United manager about the situation in Spain.
Real enjoyed a breathtaking start to the new campaign, winning both the Spanish and European Super Cups.
But their league form has left much to be desired, with Zinedine Zidane’s side already seven points adrift of fierce rivals Barcelona.
Diario Gol say Real’s weaknesses are being exposed by their current No10 to one of their biggest enemies.
And, among the leaked information, is news about Gareth Bale’s situation.
It is well known that the Red Devils were hellbent on signing the Wales international in the summer.
And, though a deal failed to materialise, it appears Modric is feeding Mourinho hope of signing the 28-year-old further down the line.
Meanwhile, United legend Ryan Giggs has urged Bale to change the way he plays in order to overcome his injury issues.
“When you look at Bale and the physical specimen he is, he is always going to be putting his body under pressure, especially with the sort of challenges he comes up against from other players,” he said.
“With the injuries he has had and at the stage of his career, this is when you need to start addressing it. When you get to your late 20s it hits home that you need to start making changes.
“Everyone is different and I tried to cover every base with yoga, acupuncture, ice baths, but what might work for some players might not for others.
“You also have to adapt your game. You can’t play in your late 20s like you did when you were 19, but that experience means your brain is quicker and you can be more economical yet more effective.
“I was definitely more effective in games in my late 20s even if I wasn’t as quick.”
