The Real Madrid star will be representing Portugal at the World Cup in Russia this summer and he has been drawn in the same group as Queiroz’s Iran.
The two will go head-to-head in the final round of matches but back at Manchester United is where they first became properly acquainted.
Ronaldo was breaking through as a young prospect having joined from Sporting Lisbon, while Queiroz was learning his trade under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Now, the Iran boss has reflected on their time together in the Premier League and admitted it will always hold a special place in his heart.
“It’s going to be special,” Queiroz told fifa.com.
“As it always is when you take on great players.
“In this case, it’s the best player in the world. But when the match starts there are just two teams who are trying to win.
“Football will decide who wins the day and who was better on the field of play.
“The memories stay with you, of course they do, especially in shared projects, like we had at Manchester [United] and the Portuguese national team.
“That was a long time ago, though.”
