Sturridge advice
5:30: Ray Wilkins believes there isn’t a striker more talented in front of goal than Daniel Sturridge, but he must up his work ethic like Alexis Sanchez.
Injuries have stagnated Sturridge’s progress under Jurgen Klopp and he hasn’t completed a full season since playing alongside Luis Suarez under Brendan Rodgers.
That season Sturridge was at his scintillating best, scoring 22 league goals in 26 starts.
And former Chelsea assistant manager Wilkins believes the 28-year-old is still one of the most clinical finishers in the league but must put in the work off the ball to make more of an impact on the modern game.
“I think Daniel Sturridge is one of the most gifted centre forwards that I’ve seen, as far as putting the ball in the back of the net,” Wilkins told talkSPORT.
“He had a great chance yesterday which he unfortunately fluffed but you have to combine that in the modern day game with a work ethic.
“You only have to look at the people we talk about all the time like Sanchez.”
Redknapp blasts transfer business
4:30: Liverpool are paying the price for not signing a centre-back, according to Jamie Redknapp.
Liverpool spent the summer chasing the signature of Virgil van Dijk but Southampton ultimately stood firm on their stance.
“The problems engulfing Liverpool and Everton stem from their recruitment in the summer,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“Jurgen Klopp failed to land a centre back while Everton’s business has left them in a complete mess.
“The real issue is that Liverpool’s centre backs are not good enough. Klopp will back his players to the hilt but there is a reason he tried to splash out £60million to land Virgil van Dijk.
Man Utd prediction
3:30: Steven Gerrard believes Liverpool can turn their season around when they return to action against Manchester United after the international break.
Despite Liverpool’s 5-0 defeat to Manchester City, they have performed well against the top six under Klopp.
In the two years since the German coach arrived at Anfield, Liverpool have taken 36 points from 20 games, losing just twice.
And Gerrard is excited to see what his former club can pull off against Jose Mourinho’s side after the international break.
“I cannot wait for those two games because watching Liverpool since Jurgen has come in – they are the games where Liverpool seem to prove everyone wrong and put in top-class performances,” Gerrard told Sky Sports News.
“I think their record against the top sides is the best so if I was a Liverpool player or the Liverpool manager those games can’t come quick enough.
