Lionel Messi demands stunning clause in new Barcelona contract as future remains uncertain

Messi has still yet to sign the new deal that was supposed to be agreed during the summer.

His current contract runs out next summer and he has been linked with a stunning move to Manchester City.

And this week he’s claimed he wants to play for boy-hood club Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina before he hangs up his boots.

And Diario Gol claim he wants the freedom to leave Barcelona whenever he chooses – and wants it written into his deal before he pens what would essentially be a rolling contract.

Messi, 30, has been on fire this season, scoring 12 goals with Barcelona eight points clear of Real Madrid already.

Barca are four points clear of second-place Valencia and look on course for another title.

While on international duty he said: “I would love to play at Newell’s.

“It’s a long-term dream, but the truth is that I do not know what can happen.”

Diario Gol claim Messi believes his demand is acceptable and Barcelona will accept without any problems.

Messi made his Barcelona debut aged 16 before blossoming into the best in the world.

And 14 years on, having won eight La Liga titles and the Champions League four times, he feels like he has earned the right to decide when to quit the club and finish his career in Argentina.
