Lewis Hamilton reveals most 'surreal’ meetings since becoming Formula One driver

Hamilton has constantly been in the spotlight since bursting onto the scene with McLaren in 2007.

The Brit secured a podium finish in his maiden race and he has not looked back since – tallying up four world championships.

Hamilton is enjoying a difficult battle with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel to try and win his fifth title this season.

But he took time out of his busy schedule to answer some quirky questions about his career to date.

And Hamilton reflected on various encounters from dinner with the Queen at Buckingham Palace to greeting Nelson Mandela.

“There’s not one person there’s been quite a few,” Hamilton told UBS Formula 1.

“Sat next to the Queen to have lunch at her house.

“I arrived at the palace and they had a board showing your seat positions.

“I had to ask if they had made a mistake because I was sitting next to the Queen but they said it was right – it was surreal.

“I met with Nelson Mandela, I have been on stage with Prince.

“My mum actually danced with Prince and she had the time of her life.

“It is crazy that you cross paths with these people on TV when you are a kid then all of a sudden you are stood next to them.”

Hamilton will next turn his attention to trying to win the Barcelona Grand Prix this weekend.

The 33-year-old won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix last time out and he will be hoping to continue the momentum.
