Kawhi Leonard trade: Lakers, Raptors and Spurs told of DISASTER move this summer

That’s according to Sporting News’ Sean Deveney, who claims the Spurs will happily entertain trade negotiations from the “desperate” Raptors.

Shock reports emerged yesterday with Toronto suddenly becoming odds-on favourites among NBA teams to sign Leonard.

It followed on from an article earlier in the week which suggested the Raptors had been generating “buzz” regarding a trade for Leonard.

The Lakers have been the favourites to sign Leonard for some time now, either this summer or in 2019 when he becomes a free agent.

The 27-year-old has made it clear he wants to head to Los Angeles, but San Antonio have so far played hard-ball over negotiations for a trade this year.

That has left the door open for other teams to come in and take a chance on negotiating with San Antonio.

The Spurs reportedly favour a trade to an Eastern Conference team, but Deveney doesn’t think a trade with Toronto makes sense for either team involved.

“From what I can tell, this is still mostly chatter and not something that’s careening towards actually happening,” Deveney said on Sportsnet.

“If the Spurs are looking to trade Kawhi Leonard somewhere that’s not in the Western Conference and are looking for a desperate team then Toronto is high on the list.

“There’s some sense there. I think it would be disaster for both teams.

“When you look at Kawhi Leonard wants and where he’s going to go next year and then you look at what the Spurs are trying to do, it doesn’t make much sense.

“Just in the fact Toronto are a desperate team in the East that seems to be there genesis of all this.”
