Jose Mourinho SLAMS Man Utd players and aims dig at Ed Woodward after Valencia draw

The Red Devils were once again uninspiring under Mourinho, with Valencia holding United to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

Manchester United struggled to dominate against the Spanish side, much to the frustration of the Old Trafford faithful, who booed off their players at full time.

And Mourinho, who has cut a frustrated figure all season, hit out at his men – and aimed a dig at Woodward over failing to back him in the summer window – after the game.

“There were some improvements in our performance. We had probably a couple of the biggest chances to win it but I have accepted the result as a fair result,” he said.

We don’t have the technical quality to build from the back

“I said in pre-season last season was phenomenal to finish second. And I don’t say more than that.

“The players tried. They raised the level of their efforts. They raised the level of their intensity in spite of the fact we don’t have many with that intensity.

“We don’t have the technical quality to build from the back.

“We tried to do something we did well which was to stop a fast team on the counter attack. We knew we wouldn’t create 20 chances.

“Our attacking players aren’t in their best moments of confidence and individual level. We thought with three or four chances we would score and win the game.

“It is a not a bad result. Not a good result, but not bad. We have two matches against Juventus to make points. It is a very difficult group, yes.

“We have Newcastle before the league stops then we have Chelsea and Juventus in three days. It will be good for the team if we can beat Newcastle.

“I think there are things that are difficult for me to say. I think you have enough reasons to criticise me.”

Mourinho risks being sacked after a disastrous start to the season.

United are now without a win in four games in all competitions following the Valencia stalemate, which comes off the back of their poor 3-1 defeat at West Ham last weekend.

Mourinho was desperate to sign a centre-half in the summer, with Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, Leicester star Harry Maguire and Jerome Boateng of Bayern Munich on his wishlist.

However, Woodward refused to back the Special One in the transfer window, with United signing Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant instead.

Mourinho has been critical of United’s defence in the past and his disappointment was evident on Tuesday night.

Despite United’s poor start to the season, Chris Smalling insists the Red Devils dressing room is fully behind Mourinho.

Smalling said: “We grew in the second half, you can tell we’re disappointed we didn’t get the goal we deserved in the second half.

“You’re just after anything, We couldn’t get the goal and we’re disappointed.

“We have to stand tall. We’re going through a tough patch and we’re the only ones who can turn it around.

“The dressing room is united. We’re sticking together to make sure we turn it around.

“We’re talented players and it is that confidence, mentally it is tough, we know how important the home games are but we turn our head’s to Saturday now.”

Speaking after United’s draw, Red Devils hero Rio Ferdinand revealed Mourinho will be happy with the draw considering his side’s current form.

He said: “After the current form United are in it’s difficult to expect them to get a result out of that.

“It’s a draw at home, they’d of liked a win obviously but Mourinho will be happy with that.”

United are back in action on Saturday evening, with Newcastle travelling to Old Trafford for the Premier League’s late kick off.
