LOCKY Magnusson could be Australia’s most devoted footy fan. In 53 years, he’s missed the boys run out for Nathalia Football Club only three times.
It’s a point of pride for the 77-year-old, who has been cheering from the boundary since 1947.
Born with the rare genetic disorder Becker’s Muscular Dystrophy, the football fan has been confined in a wheelchair for most of his life but has never let it stop him from getting to a game.
As a child he recalled riding his bike for almost 10km to get to home games.

These days he negotiates his motorised wheelchair into a van for the trip to see the Purples each weekend.
“I just love the game,’’ he said. “It’s been a great community to be a part of.’’
Nathalia Football Club will on Wednesday host the Herald Sun Foxtel Full-On Footy Tour. Journalist Mick Warner and Fox Footy’s David King and Barry Hall will be special guests at a family fun day and football discussion panel at the grounds tonight. It is set to be another highlight for Mr Magnusson, whose life has been consumed by local footy.
He has a theory about the seniors’ run of success. The team has won the last seven of eight grand final contests: “They experience defeat in their younger years and are hungry for success.’’
Next Tuesday, the Tour visits Geelong Amateur FNC. Tickets: heraldsun.com.au/fullonfooty
