JEFF Horn has reacted to confirmation from the WBO that he was a rightful world title winner over legend Manny Pacquiao – and he’s whacked his biggest critic.
The WBO on Tuesday (AEST) released a statement and detailed analysis of the Horn vs Pacquaio welterweight title bout in Brisbane, seen as a controversial victory for the Aussie.
While Horn was named a unanimous winner, critics such as ESPN colour commentator Atlas were ropeable, going to far as to say that the decision was corrupt.
Speaking to FOX Sports News 500 before flying to the US to attend the ESPY Awards, Horn said he was disappointed in the response to his win and whacked Atlas in particular.
“I won’t have too much time (in the US) for the ones that kinda brushed me and said that they definitely thought I lost the fight,” Horn said (watch below).
“Especially straight after the fight, when Teddy has said to me, ‘Ah, you lost that fight. That’s what I think.’
“When I was on my high as well, so he’s bringing me down straight away.”
Horn welcomes WBO review2:15
Boxing: Jeff Horn has welcomed a World Boxing Organisation review that has concluded he was the true winner of his welter-weight title fight against Manny Pacquiao
Horn said he was always convinced that he had defeated Filipino icon Pacquiao but was happy to get confirmation, which came from an independent panel of five new judges who watched the bout without sound.
“It was a big relief, and I’m going to the US now, so it’s nice knowing that when I go over there that I’ve got the judges re-scoring it … and they’ve got me winning again,” he said.
“To win the fight, and to think that I’ve won the fight and then gor everyone to go after you and say, ‘You didn’t win the fight’ … it’s frustrating but then to have this finally makes it a bit easier to go over to the US.”
Horn and Pacquiao are set to have a rematch later this year in Brisbane.
