Heathrow fog CHAOS: Holidaymakers ‘stuck’ as weather causes flight CANCELLATIONS

A thick fog forced Heathrow airport officials to cancel or delay flights flying to or from the venue this morning.

Foggy weather can cause visibility issues for airport operators, meaning flying in these conditions could compromise safety.

Photos reflect the hazy state of the sky, including one image of a British Airways plane on the ground which is barely visible.

Another shows the aircraft heading towards the sky in the troublesome weather.

Yesterday the Met Office issued a yellow severe weather warning for the fog affecting London and the south east.

They warned it would “only slowly clear during Friday morning”.

Although the warning has since been taken down, this was too late for a number of departing flights.

At least one flight was also diverted to Gatwick after being unable to land.

Meanwhile, hopeful holidaymakers took to Twitter to voice their dissatisfaction.

One Twitter user wrote: “Currently stuck at Newcastle waiting for fog to clear at Heathrow, hope it does soon.”

Another user questioned the reasons behind his flight cancellation: “So arrived at Heathrow T5 for my flight to Dublin on a beautiful morning but the flight cancelled coz of fog – !!More like no pilot than fog.”

Finally, one wrote: “Fog = flight delays at Heathrow this morning. Not the best start to a day.”

A representative running the Heathrow Airport Twitter account issued a series of personal apologies for the situation.

“Hi there, the fog is starting to clear. There have been few delays due to weather. We regret any inconvenience caused. Thank you.”

British Airways also issued apologies on Twitter to passengers for the fog chaos.

“We’re sorry for the delay, Vojtech. It couldn’t be helped due to fog in London Heathrow. We hope you’re on your way now.”
