Flights: Turbulence leaves passenger in hospital after being injured during storm

Flights travelling across the US have been affected by a dangerous winter storm. The blizzard that has ensued has forced hundreds of flights to be delayed or cancelled across the country. An American Airlines flight travelling from Mexico over Dallas-Fort was hit with a bad bout of turbulence. Two people were injured onboard with the plane forced to divert to Austin in Texas.

A passenger and a flight attendant were taken to hospital after landing to check them over.

The pair suffered from knee and back pain after they were thrown by the turbulence.

Thankfully, the other 77 people onboard were uninjured during the turbulence.

The injured passenger and cabin crew member were later released from the hospital.

The plane was not damaged during the storm.

In a statement, American Airlines said: “During the diversion to Austin, the flight encountered turbulence.

“The Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft landed safely at 5:39 p.m. CT, and taxied to the gate.”

The rest of the passengers were provided with hotel accommodation before continuing their journey to Dallas Fort.

The current weather is causing flight cancellations and warnings from local authorities.

More than 1,000 flights have been cancelled while another 4,000 have been delayed.

A state of emergency has been declared in Kansas with travellers warned to pay attention to the latest weather warning.

As much as 10 inches of snow is expected in the next few days across parts of the US.

A terrifying video caught a different flight in the throes of turbulence.

Passengers were travelling on a flight from Mexico which saw some of them thrown across the cabin.

Twelve of them were later taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
