The Timberwolves dropped star man Jimmy Butler from their squad for the first time this season as he looks to force a trade away.
But Rose stepped up in Butler’s absence scoring half-a-century in 41 minutes, which included four rebounds and six assists.
The 2011 MVP really stepped up to the plate to produce a dazzling performance to record his side’s fourth win of the campaign.
And when the final buzzer sounded he burst into tears as he team-mates ran towards him in sheer jubilation.
“Everyday I work my a** off bro,” he said after the match.
“I played my heart out.
“I did this for the franchise, the organisation, the fans, everybody man.
“I am doing everything just the way I am.
“My team-mates told me before the game ‘just play my game’ and today I had one hell of a night.”
Rose was then quizzed on how he found playing in the side without Butler, to which he explained the burden that puts on himself.
“We got a young group and my job is to come out and be the veteran and lead by example,” he added.
“You see me talking – this is the most I have ever talked to my team-mates in my whole career so it means a lot.”
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James even moved to hail the Timberwolves star.
“Even when a superhero’s knocked down, he’s still a superhero,” he said.
“At the end of the day Derrick Rose showed why he’s still a superhero.”
