Crystal Palace vs Southampton: Saints celebrate Steven Davis’ opener
GOAL! Crystal Palace 0-1 Southampton STEVEN DAVIS
5 min: Steven Davis slots home for Southampton to put them ahead at Selhurst Park.
It’s the worst possible start for Hodgson but Saints boss Pellegrino will be delighted, his side are looking good here.
What was that about Hodgson making Fulham tight, Mr Schwarzer?
3 mins: Southampton are looking bright in the early exchanges, while Roy is already chewing his fingernails!
Ex-Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer thinks Hodgson will keep Palace tight today after their nightmare start to the season under Frank de Boer.
“It’s going to be really structured,” he told BBC Football Focus. “He’ll bring in discipline and a system that everyone will know how to play.
“Crystal Palace need to stop conceding goals and be more organised. Frank de Boer tried to play too much football and those players weren’t quite up for it.
“With the players that he has he will be fine. He has a core group of players that has experience. I think the players will respond really quickly.
“Once they have discipline and shape, they will be allowed to show that individual flair.”
Jenas on Palace
12:15: Jermaine Jenas has given his thoughts on Crystal Palace vs Southampton.
“Roy Hodgson has the pragmatic approach to football and try not to take too many risks. Frank de Boer tried different things, he tried to go long, tried to play the ball but Christian Benteke does not do enough for Palace. He did De Boer no favours,” he told BBC Sport.
“Players miss chances, but he does not have the passion and desire to get on the end of crosses. I do not see him have a go at anybody demanding they create chances. He needs to change his attitude, he is their main player. He has not been at his best.
“Palace were far the better side against Burnley and I did not feel I was looking at a group of players who downed tools or did not believe in their manager.
“Now they have chosen the right man. Are the players’ brains going to be scrambled? Hodgson will simplify the game. Do this, don’t do that. That is how he manages his club sides. All I see from Palace now is how Fulham were under Hodgson.”
Crystal Palace vs Southampton: Virgil van Dijk is back
Van Dijk back
12:00: Virgil van Dijk is back in the Southampton squad.
The Sainst defender hasn’t played yet for Mauricio Pellegrino’s side this season but is on the bench for this match against Palace.
Van Dijk looked relaxed as he strolled around the Selhurst Park pitch with the rest of the Saints squad just minutes ago and took some time to sign autographs for fans.
Will he get a cameo today?

Brondby’s £3m Danish international goalkeeper Frederick Ronnow, is expected to be a top target.
