In late January, Mayweather hinted that he wanted to try his hand at mixed martial arts.

The Michigan native’s revelation, which came in the inevitably led to talk of a rematch with McGregor, who he beat in a boxing match last August.

A fight with McGregor in the UFC would bring Mayweather yet another multi-million-pound payday.

Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions is well aware of that fact but still isn’t keen on seeing the 41-year-old enter the MMA world.

“I would say I wouldn’t want him to do it,” Ellerbe told Yahoo Sport’s Kevin Iole when asked about the possibility of Mayweather swapping the boxing ring for the Octagon.

“I care about him and I would never want to see anything happen to him.

“Obviously, there are all kinds of risks associated with doing something like that, but that’s just my opinion, my personal opinion.

“When you care about people, when you love people, you always want the best for them. But again, that wouldn’t be my decision.

“That would be a decision solely up to him and he understands all the risks associated with combat sports, and again, he’s been very good at making great decisions.

“If he has to make a decision, he’ll make the best decision for him.”

In order for Mayweather to be able to face McGregor in the , he must first obtain a mixed martial arts license.

The former five-weight champion has yet to apply for the required license but will do so in near future.

“Not yet, not yet,” . “But everything takes time.

“Eventually, we’re gonna apply for the license, and hopefully we can fight.”

The chances of McGregor’s next fight being a rematch with Mayweather are very slim given the fact he hasn’t set foot inside the Octagon in over 16 months.

His first fight back in the UFC is expected to see him face the winner of Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov, which headlines UFC 223 on April 7.
