Collingwood’s ‘devastating’ injury blow

FOUR months out from the 2019 AFLW season, Collingwood has been dealt a major blow with 2018 Best and Fairest winner Chloe Molloy to miss the entire season.

The 19-year-old has suffered a Lisfranc injury and will undergo surgery next week.

Molloy sustained the injury during the first quarter of Collingwood’s VFLW Preliminary Final loss to Geelong on Sunday.

Devastated by the news, Molloy said: “I was really looking forward to running out with the team again in 2019, but hopefully it creates an opportunity for another young footballer to work hard and achieve her dream.

“While I won’t be on the field with them, I’ll do everything I can to help and support the team in 2019.”

The club insisted that despite being sidelined, Molloy will be fully involved with the team’s campaign.

“Chloe will undergo surgery on her right foot next week, ruling her out of the 2019 AFLW season,” Wagner said.

“It’s devastating for Chloe, who has put in a lot of hard work since her standout first AFLW season with the club.

“I’m sure Chloe will do everything she can to get back on the field as soon as possible, and in the meantime she’ll remain involved in our AFLW program to continue her football development.”
