Chevrolet Prepares for the Long Night with 2018 Colorado ZR2 Midnight and Dusk Editions

2018 Colorado ZR2 Dusk and ZR2 Midnight Editions

After taking the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 off-roading in both V-6 and turbo-diesel forms, we can attest to its rough-terrain proficiency. It’s looks don’t really match its attitude, however, as it’s basically a regular Colorado with a hood scoop and a front-bumper skid plate. That’s improving at least a bit, however, as Chevrolet has announced the new ZR2 Midnight and Dusk Editions.

Making their debut at the 2017 SEMA show in Las Vegas at the end of this month, the Midnight and Dusk will be two of more than 20 production cars, modified customs, and concept vehicles on the Chevy stand. Like GMC’s Elevation Edition or Ram’s Rebel Black or Rolls-Royce’s Black Badge Editions, Chevrolet’s Midnight ZR2 is indeed blacked out. It has black paint, black bow-tie badges, black 17-inch five-spoke wheels, and a black bed cage with LED lights on top. The Dusk Edition has the same accessory items, but it is offered with the option for any of the ZR2’s other exterior colors, which are shades of blue, green, red, light or dark gray, silver, or white. Basically, this is one special edition offered in numerous colors, and General Motors is pretending it’s two.

For the purposes of SEMA, Chevy further differentiates the two. The Midnight on the show floor will have the 3.6-liter V-6 and additional accessories such as a bed-mounted spare-tire carrier, a performance air intake and exhaust, and ZR2-stamped floor liners. The Dusk, which is breaking the Labor Day rule and will be dressed in Summit White, will have the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel and a cold-air intake.

These special editions do not offer any performance upgrades, but the ZR2 is already highly focused on taming dirt and rocks. It comes equipped with Multimatic DSSV dampers, an off-road suspension, front and rear electronic locking differentials, hill-descent control, and an Autotrac transfer case. It also sits 2.0 inches higher and has a 3.5-inch-wider track than the regular Colorado. No pricing has been announced for these special-edition packages yet, but expect something closer to SEMA, which runs from October 31 through November 3.
