Chelsea get major injury boost as Thibaut Courtois says he's fit for Tottenham semi-final

Belgian star Courtois missed on Sunday after he last week.

Courtois, who often flies to the USA to watch basketball matches when he has had time off from his Chelsea duties, was filming an NBA promotional video at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground on Tuesday last week along with team-mates Nemanja Matic, Marcos Alonso and Nathan Ake, when he landed awkwardly.

The 24-year-old battled hard to be fit for the crunch trip to Old Trafford but failed to recover, and deputy Asmir Begovic was beaten by strikes from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera as the gap at the top of the Premier League was closed to just four points with rivals Tottenham also winning.

But Courtois has told friends he expects to be fit for the FA Cup showdown at Wembley, barring any further setbacks this week.

also expect Spanish full-back Alonso to return at Wembley, after he pulled out of the Old Trafford game when he fell ill during the warm-up.

Chelsea skipper Gary Cahill, criticised for stooping to help United striker Jesse Lingard to his feet as Herrera’s shot flew in via a deflection, insisted Chelsea’s players were angry with themselves after their second defeat in four games.

The England defender said: “We didn’t click. It’s disappointing.

“We tried to work hard in the second half, tried to push and create, but we were below the standards we’ve set.

“We weren’t at the races and it makes us a bit angry. Let’s hope it’s an off day and it doesn’t cost us too much.

“We have to react in the right way. We have to dust ourselves off and prepare for a huge semi-final, and then we go again with some important home games coming up.

“There’s only six games left, and we are still in a good position. We need to realise it’s not over, we need to realise there are points to play for, and we have to dig in.

“No one is going to give us this league, we have to work for it like we have done for the majority of this season.

“We reacted after we lost to Crystal Palace, we bounced back with two wins, so it’s a similar thing. We have to go again. We are still in a great position.”
