Chance to enjoy fine malts as the GLEN SCOTIA whisky grand tour comes to Borough Market

Award-winning distiller Glen Scotia promises a warm welcome for enthusiasts during its Glen Scotia Grand Tour in Borough Market until Saturday (March 17).

The experience includes sampling whisky-based cocktails and canapes, inspired by local producers and superior single malt tastings of a variety of expressions from the independent distiller.

Each space in the event had been designed to immerse guests in experience with backdrops featuring the stunningly beautiful Kintyre Peninsula on which Campbeltown sits surrounded by seas of stormy blue and dazzling silver on Scotland’s wild west coast.

In a cosy, Victorian-styled room, capturing eras when the town’s whiskies were feted far and wide, visitors can relax with a glass of golden single malt, while in another space virtual projections of its dunnage warehouse (traditional storage for whisky believed to be the best to bring out the flavours) play out and sterner stuff in the shape of drams straight from the cask are served.

The Glen Scotia distillery dates from 1832 when tiny and remote Campbeltown was nonetheless known as the ‘whisky capital of the world’ and home to more than 30 distilleries.

Today Glen Scotia is one of just three surviving local producers, and the Grand Tour marks a resurgence of the brand owned by Loch Lomond Whiskies since 2014.

Its award-winning productions are known for their distinctive maritime influence.

“We are the first to admit that Campbeltown isn’t the easiest to get to,” acknowledges distillery manager Iain McAlister.

“But when whisky fans visit Glen Scotia they are deeply impressed by our malts and the unique character of the region.

“This Grand Tour gives whisky lovers a chance to share that sense of discovery and experience the lure for themselves.”

“It’s wonderful to bring a taste of the region to London, and our aim is to deliver the experience further afield to audiences around the world.

“The first international stop for the Glen Scotia Grand Tour is the USA, where we will be heading in a few months.”

The Glen Scotia Grand Tour is being held in the Wine Pantry in Borough Market, London.

Sessions last 60 minutes with multiple sessions each day.
