Casualty ward: Burgess back after bye

Crichton’s stellar hat-trick1:22

NRL: Angus Crichton scores his first career hat-trick.

Sam Burgess trains with the Rabbitohs.

SAM Burgess is hoping to return after next week’s bye following his late withdrawal from South Sydney’s win over the Titans on Friday night.

The English international missed the 36-20 victory due to a glute injury sustained at training on Tuesday.

The Rabbitohs have the break next week, giving the star forward 19 days to recover from the injury ahead of South Sydney’s round 17 clash against the Panthers on Sunday June 2.

“It’s disappointing, I’ve got a little strain in my glute,” Burgess told Fox Sports.

“I’ve never had a strain before. It’s a strange feeling. I did it at training on Tuesday. I tried to run (Thursday) and had no chance really.

“I should be back after the bye, for sure. I was pushing for (Friday) but I had no power.”
