Brexit campaign group ‘cheated’ spending rules, whistleblower claims

  • Vote Leave — one of the main pro-Brexit campaign groups — has been accused of bending spending rules during the referendum campaign.
  • Whistleblower Shahmir Sanni told Channel 4 that Vote Leave used a smaller organisation called BeLeave to bypass spending limits.
  • “I know that people have been lied to and that the referendum wasn’t legitimate,” Sanni said.

 

The officially designated Brexit campaign, Vote Leave, “cheated” during the European Union referendum and may have flouted campaign spending rules, a whistleblower has claimed.
