Khan has not been in competitive action since May 2016, when he took on Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas and was knocked out in the sixth round.
The Brit drew plaudits for holding his own up to that point, but his boxing reputation has diminished since with a very public divorce and reconciliation with his wife, a Twitter spat with Anthony Joshua and an acrimonious attempt to negotiate a fight with Kell Brook.
By contrast, Saunders has revolutionised his career since a dismal performance, despite winning, against Artur Akavov in Glasgow in December 2016.
The 28-year-old has joined Dom Ingle’s gym in Sheffield and in his last outing produced a fine performance to beat David Lemieux on his home turf in Montreal.
