96: BOURNEMOUTH 1-2 MANCHESTER CITY – STERLING

94: Raheem Sterling and Harry Arter have a bit of a shoving match and Mike Dean books the City attacker. There’s another pause in play with Benik Afobe down injured. Howe takes him off and brings Mousset on for the final stages.

92: Raheem Sterling rushes onto a loose ball but sends it out of the stadium and over to St. Mary’s.

90: Mike Dean is forced to go over and have a word with Pep Guardiola, who’s jumping around the technical area like a cat on a hot tin roof. Really strange behaviour given nothing particularly controversial has happened.

FIVE MINUTES INJURY TIME

89: That’s tame. Leroy Sane tip-toes into the area before dithering and seeing his shot blocked. He didn’t even get the corner as Begovic clambered over to collect it.

87: Dangerous! Harry Arter is booked for a cynical challenge just outside the area. Aguero steps up… wide!

86: City are running out of ideas. Pep is screaming at the fourth official, but I’m not exactly sure why…  David Silva almost connects with a low cross but Charlie Daniels is there to deny him a clean strike at goal.

83: Here comes Leroy Sane. The winger replaces Gabriel Jesus for the closing stages.

83: “It’s just one of those days.” How many times can Manchester City afford to say that? Pep’s spent £400million during his tenure… Mendy is booked for dragging down King. Cook delivers the free-kick from the halfway line, and Danilo clears.

80: Danilo wriggles his way into the area but his low drive is parried away by Begovic. Time running out for Pep Guardiola’s side.

77: Woodwork! Otamendi has a free-header about eight-yards from goal and guides it onto the post. The Cherries scramble it away to safety.

75: Asmir Begovic gathers Aguero’s snapshot. Eddie Howe makes a change with Benik Afobe replacing Jermain Defoe.

73: We’ve got around 17 minutes of normal time remaining, and against the odds – Bournemouth are level. It’s obviously early in the season, but City really can’t afford to draw these matches if they want to mount a serious title challenge.

70: Yellow card! Otamendi earns himself a booking for chopping Defoe. The Cherries win the corner. Arter takes… but his delivery is cleared easily at the near post. Aguero deliberately runs into Adam Smith looking for a penalty but Dean’s waves away the appeal.

68: Changes are afoot folks. Bernardo Silva is replaced by Sergio Aguero. Arter looks alright to continue for the time being.

66: This is more like it from the Cherries. The crowd have found their voices and it’s Bournemouth who are enjoying all the possession. Their momentum is halted as Harry Arter goes down injured.

64: For all their pressure and possession, Manchester City haven’t actually created too much in the way of ‘proper chances.’

62: Woodwork! Unbelievable scenes. Josh King receives the ball in a central position and slams a first-time shot against the post. Such a sweet connection and really unlucky not to see that sail in the top left-hand corner.

61: Sergio Aguero is off the bench. He’s not on the field yet. Just warming up on the touchline. I can’t imagine it’ll be too long before we see the Argentine in action.

60: Yellow card! Kompany hacks down King in full-flight and Mike Dean books him for his troubles. A gentleman in the crowd makes sure he can be heard shouting something that rhymes with banker…

Bournemouth try to be clever with it and almost concede at the other end. I would have to describe that as an epic fail, lads.

57: It’s been a fairly quiet day for Jermain Defoe. He’s not really had a sniff aside from that half-volley in the opening 20 minutes. Still, give him one chance…

54: Fabulous tackle. Cook times his sliding challenge to perfection and Gabriel Jesus goes down like he’s been shot. Credit Mike Dean and his assistants for getting that right. That reminded me of THAT Phil Neville tackle on Ronaldo during his Everton days.

51: Bournemouth will be happy if things remain like this. As in the first half, City have started slowly and can’t get back into the swing of things. Exhibit A is Raheem Sterling inexplicably running the ball out of play for no reason. Funny one that.

48: Nathan Ake looks to have shaken off that niggling knee injury. Josh King nips past Mendy before seeing his cross powered out.

45: And we’re back underway. No changes at the break. Eddie Howe will be hoping there’s a significant change in the pattern of the game.

HT: Are we going to see Sergio Aguero? He’s not been warming up during the break, so I’m pretty sure it’ll be a late introduction if he does appear.

But what if he’s not thrown into the mix? Major transfer rumours – that’s what!

HT: Just seen a few replays of Charlie Daniels’ opener. I don’t think he’s ever going to connect with a sweeter shot than that. Worth watching on MOTD tonight folks.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Baka:Bernardo Silva and David Silva have been excellent for Manchester City. More of the same please!

Aidy: People talk about City’s front line. They’ve scored four goals so far in 2 1/2 games – against Brighton, Everton and Bournemouth.

Thomas:I half expect the camera to pan back to KDB standing next to Ederson. Kevin Deep Bruyne.

HT: BOURNEMOUTH 1-1 MANCHESTER CITY

47: The Sky Sports microphones just picked up Eddie Howe screaming: “Let’s use our brains lads, use our brains!” Great advice from the manager there…

TWO MINUTES ADDED TIME

45: Begovic palms Fernandinho’s angled shot high in the air and manages to scramble the rebound clear. The number of ways City can hurt you is scary.

43: After a lengthy break in play, Ake is back on. Not sure how much longer he’ll last. Still walking gingerly.

41: Bournemouth can’t get the ball here. They’ll be lucky not to concede again before half time. And things have just got a little worse for Eddie Howe’s side. Nathan Ake, who’s in my Fantasy Football side, is down in the Cherries box holding his knee.

Bournemouth v Manchester City: LIVE build-up, team news and highlightsGETTY

Bournemouth v Manchester City: LIVE build-up, team news and highlights

38: Ooooosshhhhhh. That’s the universal term for a near-miss, right?

Danilo blazes into the area before cutting the ball across the six-yard box, but nobody was there to apply the finish.

35: If you cost £50million, you score chances like those. Bernardo Silva capitalises on a loose pass but tamely strikes it straight at Begovic. I know Pep’s the genius, but why on earth is KDB playing so deep?!

31: Adam Smith makes a last-gasp challenge to deny Benjamin Mendy. KDB takes the corner but Bournemouth quickly clear. Eddie Howe’s side need to settles themselves down here. Rattled.

28: The tide has well and truly turned folks. Bournemouth are completely under-siege with Manchester City bossing things.

Mendy and Danilo are bombing forward at every opportunity and that’s causing absolute mayhem in the Cherries defence.

24: Nathan Ake is a very lucky boy. The centre-back, who was the last man, brings down Jesus who would have been through. Mike Dean reaches for his cards… yellow! Could, and probably should, have been a red.

Jesus is close to putting City ahead but he shins Mendy’s cross wide from a few yards out.

21: BOURNEMOUTH 1-1 MANCHESTER CITY – JESUS

Did I say that Pep had problems?

Kevin De Bruyne threads through to Gabriel Jesus and the Brazilian slots home past Begovic one-on-one. Harsh on Bournemouth, who have been the better side.

21: It’s still early days but Pep Guardiola has a few problems on his hands here. City are losing virtually every individual battle and haven’t been able to settle.

18: Close! Andrew Surman chips a delicate cross over to Jermain Defoe. He peels off Otamendi far too easily, but can’t control the half-volley. It was a difficult chance in fairness.

15: Manchester City have a decent chance to respond but Otamendi can’t quite connect with De Bruyne’s corner and it goes for a goal kick.

12: BOURNEMOUTH 1-0 MANCHESTER CITY – DANIELS

I believe the technical term for that goal was a ‘thunderbang!’

Some decent build-up play sees Dan Gosling play it to Charlie Daniels, who quickly adjusts his body before sending a beautiful curling shot with the outsde of his left foot into the top right-hand corner.

It really was a thing of beauty.

13: Mike Dean gives Kompany a lecture on City players’ conduct. I think Otamendi’s on his final warning already after plough through King three times. Nathan Ake gets a stud to Raheem Sterlings cross to deny the lurking Jesus.

9: City haven’t found their rhythm yet. That’s partly due to Bournemouth’s pressing game. Jermain Defoe steals the ball from under Vincent Kompany’s nose and wins the Cherries another free-kick. Positive start from the home side.

6: The Cherries win themselves a corner. It looks like a good opportunity with City’s zonal marking, but Surman’s delivery fails to beat the first man. Seconds later, Josh King plays a neat one-two but can’t get a shot away.

3: Apparently Sergio Aguero didn’t get off the team bus for a while after hearing he was a substitute today. He’s also NOT warmed up at any point. Something tells me he’s thrown his toys out of the pram.

No chances in the early stages. Quite physical though with plenty of full-blooded challenges.

1: BOURNEMOUTH 0-0 MANCHESTER CITY

We’re underway folks. Bouncing atmosphere here at the appropriately named Vitality Stadium.

12:25: It’s a beautiful afternoon in Bournemouth folks. The players are out on the pitch and we’re almost underway. For those asking, Guardiola is wearing a lovely pair of chinos. Think he’s got a stag do in the evening…

12:20: Pep Guardiola is backing Raheem Sterling to deliver plenty of goals for Manchester City this season.

England forward Sterling shone in wider attacking roles in the last campaign and could get a run in the central positions this term.

The 22-year-old came off the bench to score City’s equaliser in Monday’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Everton on Monday and also went close with a couple of other opportunities.

Guardiola, who recently criticised his team for not taking enough of their chances, said: “In the pre-season last season Raheem played all the time out wide and this season, since the pre-season game against Real Madrid, in the second half, he has played more as a number 10, behind the striker.

“He is so dangerous in that position. I like him to sit there closer to the middle because he commits the central defenders. He is so aggressive in the small spaces. That is good.”

12:15: Oh, I have managed to find one statistic that’s good news for Bournemouth.

New signing Jermain Defoe loves scoring against City. The striker has netted nine goals in 24 career appearances against pep Guardiola’s side.

Only Alan Shearer (11) and Wayne Rooney (8) have scored more in the Premier League.

12:10: Does the head-to-head record give Bournemouth any reasons to be cheerful? In a word, no.

Manchester City have won eight of their last ten clashes, and drew the other two.

12:00: Eddie Howe held his regular press conference at stupid o’clock this week. 7am I believe. He loves an early start.

The Cherries comfortably retained their top-flight status in their first season after promotion and last term finished ninth.

But with Premier League spending in the current transfer window already at an all-time record level, Howe is anticipating their biggest fight yet.

“It gets tougher every year – the competition gets more intense and the players get better,” said Howe.

“This will be the hardest Premier League ever because it’s the most recent one.

“With the money in the Premier League now the standard of the players coming in is always improving and that makes it ever-harder for each team to compete.”

11:55: Manchester City found out who they’ll face in the Champions League group stages on Thursday.

City’s seventh successive campaign in the elite competition will feature group games against Shakhtar Donetsk, Napoli and Feyenoord.

A general opinion is that the draw could have been tougher but Guardiola has gone and said that Napoli are in Europe’s top three.

Not convinced about that myself…

11:50: Awkward. Fantasy Football managers are furious with Pep Guardiola for dropping Sergio Aguero today.

It appears many made him captain because of his tweet last night, in which he said he was ready for the match…

Guardiola. Killing FPL managers since ’15.

TWITTER ROUND-UP

Donald:Aguero on the bench… You can’t trust Guardiola. The bald b******…

CityFan:Nobody apart from Defoe can score goals in that team, although Defoe has similar speed to Kompany so easy clean sheet win for City.

Amin:One striker, a powerful left-back and more creativity in the midfield with Bernardo and Sterling. Exactly what we needed.

11:40: Eddie Howe makes three changes to the side that lost to Watford.

Jermain Defoe makes his Premier League debut for Bournemouth at his second spell with the club.

Tyrone Mings and Dan Gosling also come in. Ryan Fraser, Jordon Ibe and Benik Afobe are the players to drop to the bench.

11:35: Right, let’s start with the visitors.

Pep Guardiola has made four changes from the side who drew 1-1 with Everton on Monday.

John Stones, Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane drop to the bench, while Kyle Walker is suspended.

In come – Danilo, Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Raheem Sterling.

Oh, Fabian Delph is back on the City bench following a lengthy absence due to injury.

11:30: As promised, here’s today’s line ups.

Bournemouth XI: Begovic, Adam Smith, Steve Cook, Ake, Daniels, Gosling, Surman, Arter, Mings, Defoe, King.

Subs: Boruc, Afobe, Brad Smith, Lewis Cook, Fraser, Mousset, Ibe.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Kompany, Mendy, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Bernardo Silva, De Bruyne, Silva, Danilo, Sterling, Gabriel Jesus.

Subs: Bravo, Stones, Aguero, Mangala, Delph, Sane, Toure.

Referee: Mike Dean.

11:28: Those starting XI’s will be announced shortly folks. I have a sneaky feeling we’ll be seeing Jermain Defoe make his first league start for Bournemouth…

11:25: D’ya get the sense that today’s matches are being overshadowed by another sporting event?

Apparently there’s some kind of fight happening in Las Vegas…

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor finally fight at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena tonight.

It’s difficult to say for certain when it’ll start, but it would be worth going to bed and setting an alarm rather than trying to stay awake if Mayweather-McGregor is the only bout that appeals as the main event will not start before 4am.

A reasonable guess would be around 5am – but it may even be 5.30am when the first bell sounds.

If, like me, you are being forced to attend a wedding the next day – you’ll probably have to miss it…

11:20: We’re starting on the South Coast with Manchester City making the trip to the Vitality Stadium.

The journey would normally take around five hours by car, but Pep Guardiola’s side travelled by plane.

In fact, they used the same plane that Leicester took to Old Trafford yesterday – a journey that lasted 14 minutes…

Anyway, the Cherries have lost both their opening fixtures, while City were brought down to earth with a home draw against Everton on Monday.

11:15: Good morning folks, welcome to our LIVE coverage of Bournemouth v Manchester City from the Vitality Stadium.

The Premier League has only just returned, but it’s already the last round of fixtures before the dreaded international break.

And when I say dreaded, I mean dreaded.

We’ll soon be plunged into hours of tedious arguments about Gareth Southgate’s formation, Wayne Rooney’s retirement and who should be taking bloody corners.

Anyway, let’s just enjoy the final weekend of action because there’s plenty coming your way!
