The American guard was part of a Leeds Force side that struggled last year, but he enjoyed playing in the BBL and was keen for a return.
So, when Phoenix coach Ben Thomas approached Sandoval over the summer about moving to Cheshire, it was an easy decision.
“Coach he told me that he was after a point-guard that could create and run his offence,” he explained.
“He said a lot of things that I agreed with, I liked the situation there and looked forward to coming back to the BBL.”
He added: “Last season at Leeds was a learning experience.
“We had a rough season but it was eye-opening for me and introduced me to the BBL.
“I really liked the competition and we had a great group of guys, and even though we struggled, I really enjoyed it.”
Like Leeds, Cheshire missed out on the Play-Offs last year but their new-look squad appear to be much-improved after two wins in their opening three games.
It’s still early days but Sandoval already likes what he is seeing from his new team-mates.
“We won two close games because we’re fighters, we stick together,” he said.
“In moments where we could be pointing at each other, instead we just draw closer together.
“Hopefully that continues and we draw on that game by game.”
The goal now is to help his new side get back into the post-season.
“I felt I could come back to the BBL and help the Phoenix make a run at the Play-offs this season,” he said.
“We have a fanbase who is hungry for us to do well, so we want to get there for them.”
