Barcelona to conduct Luis Suarez tests on Thursday after knee injury against Real Madrid

Suarez, 30, pulled up just five minutes towards the end of Barcelona’s 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu with a clear injury to his right knee.

The Catalan giants were unable to bring him off the pitch after already using all three substitutes as they lost 5-1 on aggregate over two legs to their fiercest rivals.

tweeted: “Luis Suárez has a problem with his right knee. More tests on Thursday #FCBlive”

Marco Asensio opened the scoring for Real with a 35-yard screamer before Karim Benzema ensured they lifted the Spanish Super Cup.

But the injury to Suarez could pile even more misery on Ernesto Valverde and his hopes of dethroning Real as his injury could rule him out for some time.

The Uruguay international is now a doubt for their La Liga opener against Real Betis.

Valverde expressed his concern about ’s injury following the defeat.

He said: “Suarez got a bang on his knee. We will have to wait until tomorrow to see what the situation is.”

The Barca boss also opened up the defeat as claimed the early bragging rights.

He added: ”Maybe they had a bit more energy than us, above all in pressing, and we lost possession a few times.

“Things that happened in pre-season that have affected balance within team, that we must correct, or work to get another balance.

“When big team loses, it always seems that everything is lost. But nothing else to do than recover our spirits, and look forward.

“For sure we are a good team. If players arrive, things will be different. Madrid have not suffered as many changes as us.

“Coaches do not get time. We need results, so that things can keep developing. But we have players to do well and win games.

“There are no invincible teams. Only thing certain is all teams lose some day. It happened to us today, will to Madrid some day.

“We changed the system, thinking it was best way to win with players we had for this game. Although it did not happen.”
