That’s the verdict of former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell, who says the Italian has the tactical nous for the job.
Arsene Wenger announced last month that he will leave Arsenal in the summer and that has sparked a search for a new manager.
A whole host of big names have been tipped to succeed Wenger, from out-of-work Carlo Ancelotti to Napoli gaffer Maurizio Sarri.
Allegri is one of the frontrunners to take the veteran Frenchman’s place in the Emirates dugout following his exploits at Juventus.
And Campbell has now backed the 50-year-old to lead Arsenal in the wake of Wenger’s end-of-season departure.
“I think Allegri,” Campbell told Sky Sports. “He’s someone who knows defensive football as well as attacking.
“His teams are very good when they lose the ball. I think he’s favourite.”
Campbell also outlined why former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique might fall out of the reckoning to replace Wenger.
“I like Luis Enrique too, but apparently there might be issues over wages,” he added.
Wenger, meanwhile, will end his 22-year stay at Arsenal with fixtures against Leicester and Huddersfield this week.
Arsenal had been on course to reach the Europa League final too but were knocked out at the last-four stage by Atletico Madrid.
