Andy Murray vs Rodger Federer: LIVE updates from charity match as Federer wears KILT

The tennis superstars go head-to-head in Glasgow where all eyes will be on Murray’s first outing on court since Wimbledon.

The British number one has been out injured since departing Wimbledon with a hip injury in July and wasn’t expected to play again this year.

However, he will be put through his paces by eight-time Wimbledon champion Federer in front of an 11,000 crowd.

All money raised from the game will be donated to charity Unicef and local charities.

“Last year was such a fantastic night and to raise over £300,000 for Unicef and Young People’s Futures in our first year was amazing,” Murray said.

“This year is going to be even bigger and better and I am so pleased to be able to bring Roger to play in Scotland for the first time – he will get a chance to see for himself just how enthusiastic Scottish fans are, and what a great venue The SSE Hydro is.

“It is also important for me to be able support Unicef again this year, and to help a different local charity as well.”

No messing from Federer there as he barely leaves me anytime to type as he takes that one without dropping a point.

Over to you Murray.

And the Scot then wraps things up to lead 4-1.

This is weird… but funny. Federer wins his first two point on serve in his new attire.

Andy Murray* 3-6 Roger Federer – FEDERER WINS THE FIRST SET

Murray must feel like he’s playing against a brick wall sometimes – he just can’t find a way past Federer when the Swiss is at the net.

Federer has three set points and takes the set on the second opportunity.

It’s all smiles between the pair though as Federer gives an interview on court.

He’s delighted to be playing in Scotland and even more so that Andy Murray is back in action. What a gent.

He also hints he might put a kilt on if someone brings him one.

Andy Murray 3-5 *Roger Federer

Federer hits the net twice to fall two points behind.

The crowd are trying to spur Murray on but there’s nothing he can do as Federer somehow reaches the Scot’s cross-court shot to return the ball down the line.

Andy Murray* 2-5 Roger Federer

A weak Federer backhand followed by a wonderful backhand followed by an exquisite backhand sees Federer win that one.

Andy Murray* 1-4 Roger Federer

Murray responds well, racing 30-0 ahead but Federer gets the Scot running for a drop shot on the third point that he perhaps may have made had he not been out since July.

Murray then gives him a taste of his own medicine with a delicate drop shot to take the scores to deuce but Federer then sees out the game at the first time of asking.

Andy Murray 1-3 *Roger Federer

Murray is left rooted to the ground from a sublime Federer backhand and should win the second point but Federer once again returns it long.

Another backhand dropshot from the world number 2 leaves him with three break points before Murray claws his way back.

But it’s shortlived as Murray can’t return a shot from the back of the court and Federer has the first break in this match.

Andy Murray* 1-2 Roger Federer

At 15-15 Federer delivers a wonderful forehand shot with plenty of top-spin that Murray doesn’t even attempt to try and reach.

Federer survives two break points to eventually hold serve.

Andy Murray 1-1 *Roger Federer

Murray’s started a little sluggish here but it’s to be expected.

Twice Federer’s backhand catches him offguard before Murray sends his opponent long and wraps up the winning point with a ferocious smash.

The first celebrity has been spotted too… Rob Brydon!

Andy Murray* 0-1 Roger Federer

Well that was quick and easy. No messing about from Federer who doesn’t let Murray get a single point on the board.

That won’t do Murray’s confidence any good whatsoever.

19:43 Both players are out on court and we’re almost ready to begin. All eyes wi lbe on Andy Murray and his hip in the first few games.

Let’s hope he comes through this unscathed and Federer doesn’t go too hard on him!

Federer and Murray have already been playing with some of the fans in attendance earlier today although the latter did get struck  by the ball from a fan’s shot.

“I tried one of them for the first time last year and it was horrific. Stay away from that.”
