Amazon says its new North American headquarters has received 238 bids

Who wants to be home to Amazon’s new headquarters? It would appear just about every corner of the North American continent.

Amazon disclosed on Monday that it had received 238 proposals from cities and regions around the country, according to Reuters.

In early September, Amazon announced that it planned to build a new facility, dubbed “Amazon HQ2.” The company said it would spend more than $ 5 billion construction and that it would be home to 50,000 new employees. Interested cities and regions had until October 19 to submit a pitch.

And pitch they did.

The company said the proposals game from 54 states, cities, and regions in the United States, plus Canada and Mexico.

The company had developed a long list of criteria for selecting a new home. But many regions likely included incentives and tax breaks and other general sweeteners designed to lure this economic development prize.

Amazon did not list the locations that submitted proposals, nor did it offer any details about incentives. However, the company said a decision would be announced in 2018.
