Manchester United are widely expected to complete a deal for Sanchez after meeting Arsenal’s £35million asking price of the player.
It had been previously hoped that everything would have been thrashed out in time for the Chilean to make his Red Devils debut against Burnley today (3pm).
However, there still appears to be some work to do before a formal announcement is made.
With Sanchez’s prospective move to Old Trafford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to head to the Emirates as part of a swap deal.
And former United midfielder-turned-pundit Strachan can’t understand why United are “desperate” as they have a perfectly good squad.
When pressed about the state of the Sanchez deal, Strachan told Sky Sports’ The Debate: “United are now desperate.
“They have to get in the top four.
“They are the desperate team to bring players in.
“I don’t see how they are desperate as they have a decent squad as it stands.”
Sanchez meanwhile, is unlikely to take to the pitch for Arsenal later today (3pm) as they face Crystal Palace.
