Air Canada unveils NEW vintage look plus additional routes from London Gatwick

Canada’s flagship carrier today launched its new retro look, which will coincide with their 150th birthday.

This years marks this North American country’s 150th anniversary of Confederation – meaning when the county was first formed.

The exact date is in fact July 1, 1867.

And to mark this momentous occasion Air Canada has launched new routes to popular European destinations and a brand new look to go with that.

The new image sees black added to the iconic red and white colour scheme and has been taken from an old look from 24 years ago.

The aircraft boasts a full black belly, whilst the tail, also in black, sees the return of the vintage, rondelle-style logo. It was designed by international design firm Winkreative.

Air Canada staff, both in the air and on the ground, have also got a makeover.

Their new uniforms, which also incorporates the black, was designed by Christopher Bates.

The last time Air Canada reinvented their image was back in 2004, which is when it debuted the current blue-shaded scheme for its uniform.

“On the occasion of Canada’s 150th anniversary, the future Air Canada represents is the strength of our nation and the future-looking spirit of our airline,” said the airlines executive Ben Smith to Canada’s Metro News.

As well as the new makeover, the airline has also launched new routes to various European destinations.

This includes flights to Vancouver from London Gatwick and Frankfurt; flights to Toronto from Berlin; and flights to Montreal from Marseille.

The airline has also announced that there will be some new food and beverage options on the menu for travellers from April.

This includes Lavazza coffee and a selection of baked treats from Toronto’s Dufflet Pastries.

And passengers travelling in business class are to receive the most impressive treat.

They will be able to enjoy a selection of dishes made by British Colombian chef David Hawksworth, which will be served with a delicious Canadian wine.

The story comes after British Airways returned to Birmingham Airport after a decade.
