Murray had struggled to find his form in the opening two matches, losing a set to Andrey Kuznetsov and Martin Klizan in four-set wins.
However, the Scot feels he has already turned his slump – which has persisted since the beginning of 2017 – around.
“I wasn’t playing well enough last week to win the tournament,” Murray said.
“When I was practising and stuff I wasn’t playing well enough.
“But things can change very quickly – you don’t become a bad tennis player overnight.
“It can only take one or two good practices and things can turn around very quickly. I always felt like I could turn it around.”
French Open 2017 LIVE: Andy Murray v Karen Khachanov latest updates
Murray 2-2 Khachanov: Murray briefly threatens once again but Khachanov hits the line with his first serve – which averages 120mph this year – at 40-30 to take the game and keep the set level.
Murray 2-1 Khachanov: The world No1 has had two service games and won all eight points. Easy game so far.
Murray 1-1 Khachanov: The first long rally of the match sees Khachanov fly that big forehand long to bring up 15-30 but then Murray copies him and it’s 30-30.
Khachanov shows off his power with two big forehands but Murray forces him to play the overhead, which he marmalises into the back wall.
A hold for the 21-year-old.
Our man Matthew Dunn has the inside track
“Murray is nothing if not thorough and always invites the up-and-coming prospects to train with him.
“These two have hit together three or four times, so Khachanov has nothing that the Scot has not seen before.
“A low-key first service game has settled Murray in nicely.”
Murray 1-0 Khachanov: The real question is whether Murray tries to fight Khachanov’s baseline fire with some of his own. My guess is he will do the opposite and just keep getting the ball back.
A couple of errors get him to 40-0 and the Scot pulls out a lovely forehand drop shot to seal the game.
11:30am: Here we go then. Murray will serve first…
11.20am: Simona Halep has DESTROYED Carla Suarez Navarro in the opening match of Court Philippe Chatrier today, dropping just two games, meaning Murray will be out on court a little sooner than we expected.
Hopefully, the Scot won’t be caught cold by the early start though. Khachanov is a dangerous man who has already knocked out Tomas Berdych and John Isner – the world No1 cannot afford to be sluggish in the early games.
He’ll be out to knock up in a few minutes time.
