IT was meant to be a fairytale wedding for one of motor racing’s biggest stars.
But the nuptials of V8 king Jamie Whincup and his long-time partner Courtney Nicholson were cancelled just a week before the couple were set to wed in a lavish ceremony before dozens of friends and family.
In a move that has stunned the motor racing community, Whincup called off the summer wedding to his glamorous dancer fiancee which was scheduled to be held at the conclusion of the V8 racing season in early December.
It’s understood the wedding plans were so advanced that the ceremony and reception were paid in full and that Nicholson, who had bought a dream wedding dress, was completely blindsided by the shock split.
Sources close to the couple claim Whincup even celebrated a bachelor party but made the decision to end the relationship the next day.
The revelations came as a shock to friends who say the racing champion gave little indication the pair were having problems.
“Jamie is a very, very private person and the few people that he does confide in didn’t even see this coming,” said one friend who asked not to be named.
“It was a huge shock to everyone. Particularly given they were days away from getting married.”
A six-time V8 champion who is among racing’s biggest earners, Whincup has long shied away from discussing his private life and has rarely spoken about Nicholson whom he began dating in 2010.

Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup provide an insight into what its like to be a V8 Supercar driver.
When contacted this week, he confirmed the wedding had been called off and described the decision as mutual.
“We are just two people who have decided not to be together any more and that’s all I can say about it really,” Whincup said. “In terms of my personal life I prefer to keep that private.”
Nicholson said of the split: “I hope you can understand but I would prefer not to tell my story.”
