EUGENIE Bouchard says she will go on a second date with the lucky guy who scored an evening with the Canadian tennis star after a plucky approach on Twitter during the Super Bowl.
Bouchard agreed to go out with John Goehrke from Chicago after he asked for a date if the New England Patriots came back to beat the Atlanta Falcons, which they did.
The 22-year-old met Goehrke in New York and the pair went to see the Brooklyn Nets play the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA. Coming out of the stadium, Bouchard was asked by TMZ if there would be a second date, to which she replied: “For sure”.
“He’s a normal fan,” she said. “I didn’t (expect him to be normal). It’s complete luck, I’m so lucky.”
An update on the Canadian’s Snapchat account on Friday morning (AEDT) revealed Goehrke had given her a gift on the date, which she didn’t unwrap until she was back at her hotel. It turns out her thoughtful companion had given her a pair of earrings.
“A girl always loves a pair of Tiffany earrings. Thankyou John,” she said.
However, while Goehrke would no doubt be happy with Bouchard’s promise of another date, he will be ruing a missed opportunity during the NBA game.
Expecting Kiss Cam — the camera that shows couples on the big screen and encourages them to lock lips — to hone in on them during the game, the pair planned to give the crowd what they wanted. However, they both stayed too long at the half-time VIP buffet and missed their chance.
“We were supposed to be on the Kiss Cam, but I guess we missed our opportunity,” Goehrke told ESPNW.
“I was pretty nervous leading up to the actual meeting. After I met Genie at the hotel and we got acquainted, I think it all went pretty smooth.
“I don’t know if she meant that or not (when Bouchard said there would be a second date), but I hope she did.”
Bouchard said Goehrke handled the spotlight admirably during their night together.
“We had a camera with us from the NBA the whole time, so maybe it wasn’t the most normal date … but he was very laid back about it,” she said. “It was cool to meet him.”
HOW THE DATE CAME ABOUT
Bouchard was so confident the Falcons had Super Bowl LI in the bag that she bet Goehrke — a random fan on Twitter — that she would go on a date with him if the New England Patriots somehow pulled off the win.
“If patriots win we go on a date?” came the pitch from Goehrke.
“Sure,” Bouchard replied, although she shot down a second such suitor with merely “C’mon…” As the Patriots made their successful fightback, Bouchard was asked by another tweeter: “are you getting nervous?!? Lol.”
“Umm…kinda…,” she replied, adding later, “So…where do you live?”
When the Patriots won the game, and their fifth title with Brady as quarterback, Bouchard could only manage letters: “Omfg.” “Lesson learned,” Bouchard followed with later. “Never bet against Tom Brady.” Realising she had become a big deal in the Twitter-verse, Bouchard made it clear the next day she would pay off.
“Lol it made a Twitter moment,” she tweeted. “And I will do it, I stay true to my word.”

The Montreal native Bouchard stayed true to her word. And on Wednesday, met Mizzou student John Goehrke from Chicago to see the Nets take on the Bucks in New York.

Fans like John may be emboldened to raise their ante with stars in the Twitterverse with the hopes that it, too, will land them on a date with a SI Swimsuit model.
