Gomes was tipped to follow Arda Turan, Javier Mascherano and Rafinha by quitting the Nou Camp in January.
But none of the clubs linked with him made their move and he was forced to stay put for the rest of the season.
Gomes has faced accusations that he’s too cumbersome and does not suit Barcelona’s style of play.
And it seems he will need to change his game dramatically if he’s to convince Ernesto Valverde to keep him for the 2018/19 campaign.
The latest reports in Spain suggest Barcelona are hoping to offload Gomes anyway as part of an agreement for one of their top targets.
According to Diario Gol, club chiefs have Griezmann in their sights and would be willing to offer the Portugal international in return.
That deal would allow Barcelona to offload one of their unwanted players and reduce their outlay on Griezmann, who’ll be available for £88m (€100m).
Barcelona’s desire to send Gomes off to Atletico, where he’d be better suited in footballing terms, is motivated by reducing their tax derivatives too.
Like Gomes, misfit defender Aleix Vidal has ended up sticking with Barcelona for the rest of the season.
Sevilla and Roma were in for the Spaniard but were not prepared to meet his £13m (€15m) price tag.
