Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had a bottle thrown at him after Sunday’s Manchester derby descended into brawl when he told City’s players, “You f***ing show respect. Who are you?”
It is reported that Mourinho had a bottle thrown at his head, and Manchester City assistant coach Mikel Arteta was left with a bloody face in the ensuing post-match melee which involved around 20 players and staff.
On the pitch, City defeated crosstown rivals United 2-1, thanks to goals from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi either side of a Marcus Rashford equalizer for the home side.
After the final whistle, Mourinho is believed to have taken offence at City’s ‘noisy’ post-match celebrations, and began shouting at Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson in their native Portuguese. After the verbal volley, Mourinho reverted to English, shouting to the player, “You f***ing show respect. Who are you?”
Mourinho had water squirted at him, was hit on the head by an empty plastic bottle and was also doused with milk from a flying carton by an unnamed attacker in the resulting fracas, in which Arteta’s eyebrow was also split.
United’s star striker Romelu Lukaku was said to feature prominently in the brawl, although it is unknown if he was hurt. Arteta meanwhile had to be assessed by City doctors.
