The X Factor was pre-recorded and broadcast “as-live”, but the broadcast version aired sound issues.
This made it unfair for acts Danny Tetley and Anthony Russell who both performed while “sounding like Daleks”.
As The X Factor returned from a break, the audio seemed to have major problems with sound interference for the entire segment until the next advert break.
While the issue only took place during the broadcast, it didn’t happen at the time of recording.
This explains why neither Simon Cowell or Dermot O’Leary mentioned it or tried to seek a quick fix to the problem.
The X Factor displayed a message to viewers which read: “We are sorry for the temporary interference in sound.”
Viewers instantly took to social media during the sound disaster.
One viewer tweeted: “Has someone forgot to turn the Dalek effect off? Whilst he’s talking about a dead relative. Well played @itv #xfactor.”
“What’s up with the sound?? #XFactor,” fumed another.
A third said: “#XFactor sounds like the Daleks!!! @ITV.”
“You messed Danny up the other week with announcing another act! And now ‘sound interference’?! It’s disgusting! Sort it out @ITV #XFactor,” added another.
A fifth asked: “What’s wrong with the audio? #XFactor.”
“This alien filter on the voices could improve this performance #xfactor,” teased another.
One fan said: “SCREAMING at Danny Tetley singing and sounding like a dalek #XFactor.”
“Um what’s happened to the sound?! #XFactor,” quizzed another.
ITV also took to its official Twitter account to apologise for the blunder.
Their tweet read: “We are sorry for the temporary interference in sound.”
At the end of the show, ITV revealed voting would take place tomorrow night due to the sound interference.
This means viewers will not be able to vote tonight.
The X Factor continues tomorrow on ITV at 8.30pm.
