X Factor 2017: Why Louis Walsh REALLY brought back Sam Black ‘It wasn’t just his decision'

Viewers raged that the father-of-one was given a free pass to the live shows after Liverpudlian hopeful Anthony Russell pulled out of the X Factor for “personal reasons”.

However, his fellow singer in the Boys’ category, Lloyd Macey, 23, has defended Louis’ decision to being back the 20-year-old crooner.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Lloyd explained: “I think, to be honest, I go with what Louis said, they missed a trick by not putting Sam through because I think he’s fantastic.

“I think that was probably the best way to do it because then why have the Six Chair Challenge? Louis chose his six so to pick another boy… I think Louis did the right choice in bringing Sam back.”

He continued: “Watching it back with Sam’s arena audition, I thought he was fantastic. Louis did say that he saw something in him and it wasn’t just Louis’ decision.

“I think Louis believed in him and that’s great.”

Confirming why Louis replaced Anthony with Sam, Lloyd went on: “I think his style is very different and it appeals to a different kind of audience and he knows what kind of artist he wants to be, so I think that’s important.

“The judges are really pushing individuality.”

Earlier this week, Sam admitted that replacing Anthony was “unfair”.

“If I was watching it myself, I’d probably be thinking the same,” he told Digital Spy. “I’d be thinking, ‘It was a bit unfair’.

“Obviously I’ve been given that opportunity and I’m not going to turn it down. I’ve just got to take it.”

The X Factor continues tonight at 8.20pm on ITV.
