British drivers who struggle to drive on the wrong side of the road may no longer need to worry.
Politicians in France are to allow Britons to drive on the left side of the road when in Calais.
It is hoped that it will boost tourism to the French port city.
Due to recent migrant camps and riots, travellers to the area have decreased.
The plan for the change in driving laws could be tested on bank holidays next year such as May Day.
For just one day, it would mean overhauling the transport system in the city.
Politician Xavier Bertrand, president of the Northern France region spoke out about the changes: “I have the dream of the British coming here and we let them drive on the left in Calais – or somewhere else in Hauts-de-France.
“It would show they are welcome.”
A source close to the politician reiterated the claims: “In France the mayor of a town has the power to make a rule for the day – as if there was a major event.
“We would hope to do it on a bank holiday – maybe on a day when beautiful cars are heading to Le Mans Classic.
“It would be a designated area – but we would want to make it feel like you are in a British city.
“Ultimately it will be up to the mayor Natacha Bouchart to implement it.”
