WATCH: Terrified tourists flee Mallorca beach after 10-foot shark spotted in sea

Tourists were forced to evacuate a beach in Mallorca following the discovery of a 10-foot shark in the water.

Many families with young children were swimming in the sea at Cala Domingos during the incident.

In a video, the large shark could be seen circling a boat in the water.

Many people were standing on large rocks to escape the creature and watched it swim close to shore.

Some children could be heard screaming in the background as the 10-foot mammal plagued the water.

People who were swimming were told to get out of the water to avoid any incidents.

Sadly, the shark died after biologists from Palma Aquarium attempted to rescue it.

Despite trying to guide it back to the sea, lifeguards stated it became disorientated and died after it was taken out of the water.

The shark was believed to be a blue shark, popular in the waters around Spain and the Mediterranean.

An autopsy at the aquarium is due to take place.

A local lifeguard organisation tweeted at the time: “Police together with lifeguards and staff from Palma Aquarium have removed the animal. We fear for its life.

“Cala Domingos beach was evacuated at 3pm today (Thurs).

They later reported that it had survived being taken out of the water, although this was later deemed incorrect.

Blue sharks rarely bite humans with a handful of incidents in history, less than five being fatal.

It isn’t the first time a shark was spotted on a beach in Spain, prompting fear amongst tourists.

In June, an eight-foot blue shark was spotted on a beach in Menorca.

Swimmers fled the water with one screaming: “It’s coming.”

One woman initially thought it was no longer alive, while someone replied: “No, it’s not dead”.

Other tourists were heard screaming as they spotted the animal roaming the sea.

No-one was injured and the shark beach reopened after a number of hours.
