WATCH: Russian TV tower demolished ahead of the world cup – will it fall the wrong way?

A Viral video has spread after the incredible moment a TV tower was blown up was captured on camera.

The TV Tower was an iconic landmark on the Yekaterinburg city skyline in Russia.

According to Press TV, the construction started in 1983, yet building efforts were abandoned in 1991 when the project ran out of money.

The tower, stretching 220 metres into the sky, was allegedly the tallest abandoned building in the world.

However, as the city prepares for the world cup which will take place in Russia later this year, the government approved plans to demolish the iconic tower.

Captured on camera, the footage shows the tower protruding high up into the air.

With dynamite strapped to the tower a third of the way up, the camera captures the explosion.

Slowly at first, the tower starts to crumble, swaying under the weight of the structure that remains.

Before too long, momentum starts to build, and the tower looks as though it might fall the wrong way.

Surrounded by tall buildings, if the demolition goes wrong, the outcome could be catastrophic.

Gathering speed, the tower looks as if it’s going to split in two.

Fortunately, the tip part of the tower lands safely, and no serious damage appears to have been done – other than to the tower.

Ivan Volkov, a 39-year-old lawyer, Ivan Volkov, was the head of the committee against the demolition according to Reuters,

He said: “Now it’s the symbol of the people’s humiliation at the hands of the authorities because the decision was made behind-the-scenes. It shouldn’t be done this way.”

Defending the demolition, local governor Eugene Kuivashev said: “No one seriously believes that the city needs such a symbol.”

Unfortunately for one worker on a construction site, a viral video captured the moment his truck flipped unintentionally.

The red tipping truck can be seen off-loading on a building site in front of a large mound of dirt.

As the truck lifts its dumper something appears to be very wrong.

Suddenly the whole truck starts to shake as the dumper begins to pull away from the cab.

As the pressure of the tipping dumper builds, the left-hand side of the cabin starts to lift away from the ground with the driver still inside.
