A viral video has shown the moment a cruise ship fails to park properly when docking at a port in the Caribbean as part of its seven-day journey.
The video, filmed earlier this week on April 10, shows the MSC Armonia cruise ship attempting to enter Roatan port in Honduras.
It was reportedly carrying up to 1,800 passengers at the time of the accident, although the ship can hold up to 2,679 passengers.
In the video, the cruise ship can be seen approaching the pier at approximately 13mph, with the ship’s top speed reaching 23mph.
As they get closer to the pier, the accident occurs.
Suddenly it hits the dock, sliding the left side of the ship against it.
Thanks to its enormous weight of 60,000 tonnes, it crushes it and causes it to fall apart.
The person filming from the pier, called gCaptain on YouTube, shows the carnage of the debris which is scattered in the water.
Someone in the video can be heard yelling in Spanish which translates to: “Get out of the kitchen.”
No one was reported to have been injured and the cruise left slightly later than planned.
An investigation has been launched to find out the cause of the crash.
In an email to Fox News, MSC Cruises wrote: “While manoeuvring alongside, for reasons that are currently still being duly investigated, the ship deviated from her course and grazed the end of the pier.”
An MSC Cruises spokesperson told MailOnline: “Following repairs yesterday, the ship was cleared by Honduran Port State Control authorities to continue her journey.
“The ship is fit to continue her voyage and on schedule for the next port call.
“The itinerary is not affected.”
A different cruise ship suffered the same fate when attempting to dock in Alaska.
A Celebrity Cruises ship attempted to enter the port in Ketchikan when the incident occurred.
Not leaving enough space, the large vessel scraps along the side of the metal walkways at the port.
A cracking sound can be heard before the bridge crashes into the water.
Repairs and damages were estimated to be as much as £2 million.
