WATCH: Britons SCRAMBLE for sun loungers in busy Gran Canaria hotel

Holidaymakers will do anything to get the best sun lounger in a hotel on holiday.

From putting down a towel to sitting across three of them, it can take drastic measures to secure a spot.

A video has recently emerged showing just how far some Britons would go, as they are filmed racing towards the pool as soon as it opens.

The Gran Canaria hotel it was filmed at attracts many Britons to the luxury resort.

The video shows hoards of people queueing at the entrance of the pool area at 8am as they wait for it to open.

As soon as it does, they can all be seen running for the best sun loungers by the front of the pool, some of the guests putting down towels and bags on various seats.

However, the issue of holidaymakers keeping too many sun loungers to themselves all day has become a big problem for the hotel chains.

Hotel staff are now even instructed to remove any towels or bags on chairs that have been unoccupied for a few hours to prevent them from blocking them all day.

A hotel insider also revealed that Britons are some of the worst for stealing sun loungers.

German travellers have always been the accused as the worst, but this appears to have been overtaken by UK tourists.

The source states: “I know the British have traditionally regarded the Germans as the worst offenders but our experience is that they have breakfast first and look for a sun loungers after.

“It’s a bit hard to fathom really because there are enough sun loungers to go round.

“We get guests laying their towels out in the morning and sometimes disappearing again till the afternoon.

“The problem has been getting so bad recently that hotel staff are now under instructions to remove towels on sun loungers which have been unattended for two or three hours.”

It’s not the first time Britons have been filmed as part of the bizarre sun lounger race.

A resort in Benidorm also found many of the guests running towards the sun loungers in a bid to bag the best one.

A staff member is seen to shout “go” as they all behind to race.

Some even recruited their children in the race to grab the sun loungers.
