VW Golf GTI TCR 2018 – Volkswagen REVEALS fastest ever Golf GTI ever made

The annual Wörthersee meet is fast approaching and will see thousands of VW owners gathering this week.

It is the largest GTI meeting in the world and gets going on Wednesday 9th May.

As a special treat to VW enthusiasts in attendance, the carmaker is bringing a truly special offering to the table.

The carmaker will present the new Golf GTI TCR – which is nearly ready for production.

It will be the fastest ever production Golf and is based on the 350PS race series Golf GTI.

Powering it is a  2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 290PS and 370 Nm of torque.

This engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) and also comes with a front axle differential lock as standard.

Its top speed has been electrically limited to 155mph but VW claims that car can go 164mph if the limiter is removed.

Production is expected to start towards the end of 2018.

UK availability and prices for the car have, however, yet to be confirmed.

With more than 2.2 million units sold, the Golf GTI’s has become one of the world’s most successful compact sports cars.

It all started life in 1976 as a 110 PS front-wheel drive car, which made high driving dynamics affordable.

Originally, only 5,000 cars of the original GTI were to be built – 4,400 times as many have now been produced.
