The former Prime Minister surprised Queen Victoria (played by Jenna Coleman) when he arrived at Buckingham Palace.
Viewers were also thrilled with his return but his comeback was tarnished with the news that he was suffering from a painful illness.
Fans of the series were infuriated by the revelation but it looks as though they could be set for more heartache as Rufus Sewell who plays the charming Lord M dropped a troubling spoiler.
Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning, the actor teased: “Melbourne thinks there is something wrong with him but he isn’t sure what it is.
“It isn’t in his nature to burden others with his troubles, he is keeping it to himself and not sharing it with Victoria.”
As the presenters looked worried about his revelation, Rufus went on to add: “There is trouble afoot.”
Could Lord Melbourne be killed off in upcoming episodes?
It comes after executive producer Damien Timmer promised there would be some “twists and turns” when Lord M returned.
“There’s quite a lot of drama over the episodes that Lord Melbourne features, and unexpected twists and turns which could intrigue people,” he divulged.
But when pressed as to whether he would feature in another episode after the second instalment, Damien simply replied: “We don’t know…well, we do know, but we’re not going to tell you.”
Victoria airs Sunday on ITV at 9pm.
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am.
