Victoria season 2: Did creator Daisy Goodwin confirm that Lord M will RETURN?

In the latest episode of the hit series, it looked like former prime minister Lord Melbourne (played by Rufus Sewell) was going to die after his health started to deteriorate and doctors told him the diagnosis wasn’t looking good.

At the end of the episode Queen Victoria (Jenna Coleman) and Prince Albert (Tom Hughes) discovered the truth about Lord M’s state of health, leading the monarch to presenter her beloved ex-prime minister with a parting gift.

Appearing on today’s edition of This Morning, writer Daisy Goodwin hinted that it was not quite the end for the beloved character, saying he wasn’t “officially dead”.

Speaking about the future of the show, the 55-year-old television producer said: “There’s so much story and this is the most exciting period of history. Victoria and Albert saved the British monarchy.”

She went on to say: “I have to break it to people that Albert does die but not until he’s 42. So there’s still plenty of life yet.”

Host Phillip Schofield said that Albert’s death was going to be “very, very tough” to watch.

“I’m not sure I can get to those parts. It practically killed me to kill off Dash in the last episode. I don’t think I can do that to Albert,” Daisy admitted.

Phillip, 55, cut in: “You mentioned that and not Lord M!” However, Daisy cryptically responded: “He’s not officially dead yet.”

Co-star Holly Willoughby pressed her further: “It’s heading in that sort of direction. Will we see him a little bit more?”

While she didn’t give anything away, Daisy simply said “maybe”.

Fans were left devastated by the third instalment of Victoria which saw the queen’s pet dog Dash dying of old age as well as Lord M declining.

This week’s episode is set to be just as dramatic after actor Tom, 31, suggested some big revelations would be coming out about Albert’s past.

“He goes back to Germany for his father’s funeral and his Uncle Leopold reveals a family secret that puts into question Albert’s paternity and his whole kind of family line,” he said.

Tom continued: “And that throws him into a self-identity spin. He’s a bit dislocated literally and putting down roots.”

Victoria airs on ITV on Sundays at 9pm.
