Veronica on Netflix – The cast and the real family's HORRIFYING true story

Veronica is terrifying enough without knowing it is based on real events.

Many viewers have confessed they can’t even watch the terrifying Netflx movie to the end.

The story of a young girl experimenting with ouija boards who encounters demons, evil spirits and possessions is directly inspired by the horrifying Vallecas case from Spain in 1990.

How much contact did the cast have with the real family and how different is the movie from the spine-chilling original events?

The movie is loosely based on the notorious Spanish case from the early 1990s, named after the Madrid suburb where the supposed supernatural events had been terrorising a family.

Police were called to a home in Vallecas in 1992. Police Inspector Jose Pedro Negri revealed: “It was a small bedroom with twin beds. The father told us that sometimes when he and his little son were sitting on the bed, his son was picked up and thrown on to the other bed in a flying move…

“We heard a terrible scream behind us which came from a small balcony. I quickly opened the door and ran out to see if I could see anything. But there was nothing. No fallen stones. Nothing.”

The police also reported a door slamming open and other unexplainable phenomena but the real horror dates back a year before when the daughter died after playing with a ouija board.

Estafania Gutierrez Lazaro died suddenly in August 1991. Her parents told the police that when the boyfriend of one of Estafania’s friends died in a motorcycle accident, a group held a seance at school to try and contact him.

It was interrupted by a teacher, after which Estafania’s parents claimed that they all saw a strange swirling smoke enter her nose and mouth. She began having seizures and hallucinations just days later.

No doctors could find anything wrong with her but Estafania’s heath deteriorated and her seizures and hallucinations intensified until her death.

Veronica depicts schoolgirls using a ouija board to contact a dead ex boyfriend, followed by hallucinations and apparent possssions. There are also nuns. So how closely is the film related to the case?

Ana Torrent said the cast never met the family: “I have seen the document (about the real case) but I believe that when we saw the screenplay, we saw it is based in principle on the story in that it starts with a young girl and a ouija board and things begin to happen. But after that it is not the same story. The family is the movie has very little to do with the real family. It is only very loosely connected.”
