Tostitos develops a chip bag that's a breathalyzer

In a collaboration with Uber and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Tostitos is working to prevent drunk people from driving on the night of the Super Bowl, and one of the spotlight features is a nifty chip bag with a built-in alcohol sensor. As seen in the video above, you blow into the sensor on the distinct all-black bag and the blue ring lights up in green if the person is safe to drive.

On the other hand, if the subject is not safe to drive, the ring will illuminate a large red steering wheel and the words, “don’t drink and drive.” This would be impressive alone, but the bag does more than tell you not to drive. If you’re too drunk, the bag will provide a code for an Uber ride that can be downloaded using your smartphone.

Frito-Lay, the parent company of Tostitos, did not respond to our request for comment. According to USA Today, the bag won’t be offered to the public. It also only looks for any amount of alcohol in breath, as opposed to a specific blood-alcohol level.

The Tostitos collaboration with Uber and MADD doesn’t end with the fancy bag. It instead continues with a practical, real-world attempt to prevent drunk driving by including an Uber discount code on select bags of Tostitos. The last five digits of the UPC bar code on select Tostitos bags can be typed into the Uber app for $ 10 off a ride on the day of the Super Bowl, February 5. According to WCNC, the code should be typed in after the game is over to take advantage of the discount. You can also check out the Tostitos site for specific details on which bags have the code.
